Bidets may feel uncomfortable for those that don’t use it in their daily life, but most people who own one often feel it difficult to return to the traditional toilet paper method. The portable bidet is the perfect item for when you have to use the bathroom while you’re out. Whether you’re commuting to work or traveling the world, this can be a great item to take with you! However, using the portable bidet can be slightly more challenging than a normal one. Here, we'll explain the whole process in detail from start to finish. Let's get started shall we?
What is a Portable Bidet?
It’s the only kind that’s not limited to one bathroom and despite its size, it can give you a similar clean result. It can also be a more affordable way to try one out before investing in a fixture model for your home.
There are two types of travel bidet, manual and electric. For manual, the water flow is powered by squeezing the bottle while the electric is powered by a battery and all you have to do is press a button to activate. Another noticeable difference between manual and electric is that the electric can be pre-filled while the manual cannot due to its design.
How to Use a Portable Bidet
These are harder to use than most others since it requires manually controlling the power and angle with a limited water supply. However it's quite easy to get used to after a few tries and hard to forget once you learn.
1. Preparing the Bidet
If you haven’t used your travel bidet in a while, make sure to rinse and wash the inside before use. The last thing you want to do is use one that's been collecting dust and mold. Using light soap with water will definitely get the job done and it's a good habit to clean it out periodically even when not in use.
2. Fill the Bidet Before Starting Your Business
If your bidet's been sitting in your bag for a while, it's easy to forget that you have one and accidentally sit down on the toilet without filling it. Water from the bathroom sink is an acceptable source and it's never a bad idea to fill it up all the way.
Manuals tend to leak when tilted the wrong way so they cannot be pre-filled, but with the electric, you can always pre-fill the container. However, it's not a good idea to re-use water that you used in your previous wash, so always use a new set of water.
After filling up the manual, make sure to keep it upright until use to prevent water from leaking out.
3. Lowering the Bidet and Adjust Your Angle
Using the portable can be hard at first, but it’s very similar to using a spray. Point the nozzle towards you and lower the spray into the toilet, either through the front or back.
Even if it has a long neck, avoid placing the nozzle head directly under yourself since it can result in the water splashing back. You'd want to keep the nozzle separated from your body and point it at an angle.
For the manual, start by gently squeezing the bottle until you feel the water contact. From there, adjust your aim and grip harder to reach a good enough pressure for wash. For the electric, press the button to activate the wash and adjust your aim accordingly. If there's a higher power wash mode, we recommend using it as long as it's not strong enough to cause pain. Continue to apply for a good 15-30 seconds for an effective wash.
4. Dry Off and Check
After the first wash cycle, check with toilet paper to see if you're fully clean and wash again if necessary. If the bottle's water capacity is not enough for you, we recommend bringing an extra water bottle to fill up.
Once you've confirmed that you're fully clean, dry off, either with towel or toilet paper, and flush away.
5. Empty Out Bidet and Wash With Soap
After you're done with your business, go ahead and empty out the bottle. Most manuals leak if you leave water inside and it's not good in general to use the same water as a previous wash. Once emptied, rinse out everything with light soap and store it away.
Don’t forget to wash your hands with soap as well!
